An Interview Prayer

6/30/2017

Hello my Friends and Followers! Happy Friday! i am going to keep today's blog brief. I want to share this prayer for anyone having a job interview, or sharing their biz with a potential prospect. As you know, this can be a nerve wracking experience, especially when you first start out in building your direct care business with others. Here it is:

Dear Lord, Help me I pray to be composed and calm as I go into the interview room. Keep my mind clear and my heart at peace as I face this challenge - and help me to answer the questions clearly and without hesitating or fumbling over my words.

Lord You know that I am quite nervous about this interview as I really hope I will be appointed, but I ask that I may rest my soul in You, for You are my strength and my sufficiency.

Thank You that You are interested in every area of our lives, and I pray that You will be with me through out this interview.

Here 's to Good Health and Much Happiness,
Your Friend, Dr. Younger You

Celebrating the Start of Summer

Yesterday, June 21, 2017 marks the first official day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. If you are not one to stay covered up with hats and clothes to protect your skin, I am reminding you for the need to use body and facial sunscreens and to apply it regularly, every 2 hours, for protracted periods of sun exposure.
A few weekends ago, I noticed several family and friends suffered rather significant sunburns on a particularly very hot Spring day. I understand that no one means to get burnt, but I do need to remind you that even a single sunburn raises your risk for melanoma, the most serious skin cancer. And five sunburns in a lifetime, doubles the risk of getting a melanoma.
In my two articles ouch-my-daughter-got-a-sunburn  and my-second-red-headed-kid-gets-sunburned-what-is
.-dr-mom-to-do, I give pointers from the medical literature on how to further prevent and treat significant sunburns.
There are so many sunscreen products from which to choose.  It is true for sunscreen, you get what you pay for.  I recall an article last summer of a woman who purchased sunscreen for $1 at a dollar store. She ended up with severe burns, a lot of pain and suffering, because the product did not work at all.
The Essential Body Sunscreen by Rodan + Fields is a great product for all the family to use
.
The Body Sunscreen is a non-sticky, non-whitening, water-resistant broad spectrum SPF 30 protection that battles the damage that can occur against the "rays that age us" (UVA rays) and the rays that make us red/burn us--the UVB rays. It contains dimethicone for barrier protection, as well as powerful antioxidants.
Do you have trouble finding a facial sunscreen that works for you?   Three of the four main Rodan + Fields premium skin care regimens called Unblemish, Reverse, and Soothe, have facial sunscreens as step 4 of the regimen.  The sunscreens are tailored to your primary skin care concerns, so it takes the guess work out of getting a product that won't wreak havoc on your face.
The sunscreens can be purchased separately.
Redefine, the anti-aging regimen created by Doctors Rodan and Fields, board certified dermatologists, has a sunscreen built into Step 3, the morning moisturizer.  The Mineral Peptide Powder for daily use is a favorite of mine! It has SPF 20 built into it.

Have a Safe, fun-filled Summer with Family & Friends!

My Son the Graduate

6/15/2017

It is the eve before my Son's graduation ceremony from high school.  My once Baby Boy is now a man.  In preparation for the open house at our home with his two best friends and their families,  I asked each Mom to make their son's graduation board for display.  And so I began to build my Son's Board.
I spent many hours going through all his school pictures and albums, picking out the ones that capture him and his hobbies.  There were too many to choose.  I picked the funniest, the cutest, the most handsome pictures I could find. And they represent him well.  During my search, I smiled, and I laughed a lot.  I remembered places and times that I had forgotten about until the pictures jarred my memory.  And I thought.....oh, how quickly he grew---but we sure had some great times along the way.
I decided that I would put his baby pictures and school pictures in chronological order on the left side of the board, starting with the very top picture of him in utero--his ultrasound picture.  I then went year by year and put the wallet size photo in the right order, capturing the transformation from infancy to an adorable little boy, then to a chubby middle schooler and finally to the handsome young man I celebrate today. No matter what age, he always has the best smile, and he is a freckled faced redhead.
The middle of the board features him in his Senior year, in his football uniform, 4 wheeling, shooting his rifle, fishing, hunting and doing the things he loves most.  Underneath his senior pics are pictures of us, his family.  We are his base and we will always be there for him.  And I thought.....oh, how quickly he grew---but we sure had some great family love along the way.
The right side of the board are his best friends he has made many memories with thus far on his earth journey. Many of the friends are like Brothers. And I thought....oh, how quickly he grew--but he sure has made some special life long friends along the way.
Underneath all of the pictures are his faith journey pictures--his first communion and confirmation pictures.  And I thought....oh, how quickly he grew--but Jesus is his Savior, and He will always be there for him along the way.  I included this prayer on his board:

Prayer for Parents for Their Children
Divine Child Jesus, King of all Nations and Families,
You have made us fathers and mothers and blessed us
with Your children.  Help us to be prayerful parents and
good examples to them. Infant Jesus, strengthen their wills,
inspire their minds, fill their memories, cleanse their wishes
and desires, bless and guide them and us until we are all in
heaven with You.

Jesus, I trust in You.

At the end of this night, I retire to bed, with a proud and happy heart,  I look forward to the graduation ceremony, and the celebration with family and friends at our open house.  I look forward to the next journey My Son, the Graduate will experience.  Fly, Son, fly.  I love you so much!

Thank You for Letting me Share--

Nail Tale

I was totally ready to get back to basic skin care education on this week's blog, and since I have a bandage on my Left hand pointer fingernail, I thought I would share the knowledge of what I learned this past week about acrylic nails.  Last night, as I read fellow bloggers advice on the topic of "pain in the nail bed under acrylic nail"--I thought I really need to share this information with my followers who may be acrylic nail novices like myself or thinking about getting them. It is a good topic, because fingernails are produced by living skin cells in the finger.  Fingernails are composed largely of keratin, a hardened protein that can also be found in skin, hair and eye lashes.
As a Doctor, I have never been able to have long fingernails for obvious reasons.  Think about some of the exams a Doctor performs!  Plus, this time of the year, I am a gardener, and I love to dig in the dirt!   But for a recent big event, my daughter's wedding, see my story  my-beautiful-daughter-bride-part-2 I went all out and got acrylic nails, with a french manicure.
When I went to the nail salon for the service, I watched the nail lady build my beautiful new nails, on top of my short dull nails.  First she glued the acrylic tips on top of my natural nail with some kind of super glue.  She assured me they would not fall off and last 2 weeks until they had to be filled.  She used a white powder and a brush with some liquid to build a nail matrix that when it dried looked like a natural nail bed.  She then used gel nail polish and painted my tips white, and I had a gorgeous classy french manicure--I thought they looked so fantastic. I really did love how they looked.
Fast forward to yesterday, which was about the two week mark since the nail lady built me my beautiful nails.  I have been cleaning out my garage in preparation for another big life event---more on that in the future.  I was protecting my beautiful nails with latex free gloves, but working hard and deep cleaning my garage.  When I retired for the evening, I felt some pounding discomfort on my left hand pointer finger.  When I looked closely, it looked like the fake nail matrix was lifting somewhat at the base.  The pain was more in the middle of my nail bed.
Thank goodness for Google, because at 10 PM, I needed to know what to to do with my "nail bed pain".  I learned that you can remove the acrylic nail by putting your finger in nail polish remover,(pure acetone).  I did that, and got quite a burning pain. Ouch! I figured I must have done something to my natural nail during the cleaning work in the garage.  So, I got my clippers and my scissors and proceeded to work on removing the gel and acrylic tip.  That was also painful.  I actually took a pain pill and went to bed.
I had a lot of cleaning to do today, so I figured I would start fresh today with "Operation Acrylic Nail Gone Bad".  I was able to remove most of the gel and acrylic, and underneath, I have a crack in my real nail in the middle of the nail bed.  I used the method many bloggers suggest via my Google search.  That is, I placed a saturated cotton ball with acetone and used aluminum foil to keep it on the nail for 20 to 30 minutes.  It does help. I have seen women in the nail salons with aluminium foil on all their tips, but never knew what they were doing----now I do!
And the acrylic tip nails can be a little difficult to learn to do basic things, that you normally do without thinking about it. For the past 2 weeks, I have had to learn to type both the keyboard and text on my phone differently. I kept hitting the wrong button or key.  I found it hard to do simple things, like put earrings in, or clasp a necklace.  Opening a tab on a can or flap on a box is harder than you think. And getting a contact out of your eye with a dagger nail.....that is a little tricky for sure!
So, as much as I loved how they look, I won't be continuing to get my pretty acrylic nails.  I read some women have them continuously for years and years, without ever taking a break. This requires going to get them filled every 2 weeks.  Many describe it as an addiction, but hey, they could have worse addictions, and if they love it---why not?!

Your Friend, Dr. Younger You :)

My Beautiful Daughter Bride Part 2

Did you see the BEFORE picture of my Daughter in my blog my-daughter-bride as she prepared for the big wedding day? It featured her wearing a charcoal mask in her desperation to clear her complexion for the wedding day.  She was such a good sport and gave me permission to show that picture.  I promised you the AFTER pic!
And here is my Daughter's AFTER picture, just one hour prior to saying her vows to her fiance in The Little Chapel of the West in Las Vegas, NV.  Isn't  she BEAUTIFUL?  She is extremely happy and says it was the best day of her life to date!
As a parent, it is such a blessing to see your once little child, now grown-up and marrying their best friend. It is extremely comforting to know in your heart that everything will be okay.  It gives you solace to know that there is someone who cherishes your "baby" as much as you do, and who will be there "in the good and bad times, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health until death do they part".  My heart is happy and content for the Newlyweds: My Beautiful Daughter and my Son in Law!
Thanks for letting me share this happy event with you!
