My Second Red Headed Kid Gets Sunburned-What is Dr. Mom to Do?

7/27/2016

Oh my.....If you recall a few weeks ago, my red-headed daughter's legs got severely burned to the point of blistering. See my blog of June 24, 2016 where I reviewed the topic of sunburn, including treatment interventions. It took her quite a while to heal, and it was very painful.  She read and shared the blog, and I felt like she really got it. But.... did you know I have a second red headed 17 year old Son who did the same thing a few days ago?
Again, my kiddo has access to all the sunscreen he could ever need.  It is everywhere. I keep a bottle of sunscreen near the back door and frequently remind my "Ginger" to "Don't forget to put on your Sunscreen!"  Sound familiar Moms?
Well, this big lineman went to a football "Big Man Bash" and competed all day in the blazing sun.  I am one of the parents who always brings sunscreen and makes him put it on, despite his grumbles and apparent embarrassment I cause him with this intervention.  Sound familiar Moms?
Unfortunately, I was on call so was not able to go.  I texted him to see how he was doing and reminded him to put sunscreen on. No reply.  Sound familiar Moms?
After my 24 hour shift, I arrived home to a very sunburned kid. His face, lips and neck were scalded.  He was feeling sick all over. I had him use Rodan+ Fields Soothe #2 and he went to bed.  He would not allow a picture, but he states it did really help with the pain and redness.  He did not blister, and he put some on again this afternoon as the sunburned skin heals.   I have included a picture of him in competition.
The moral of this story to all sports competitors (and fans), please listen to your Mothers.  Please use sunscreen and cover up,and seek shade out of the sun as much as possible.  The June 24 blog gives more detailed information of all the risks and treatment if you want to read it out loud to your Big Kids as a bedtime story tonight!

Here's to good health & much happiness,
Dr. Younger You :)

MY BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS SHOCKED ME!

7/21/2016

Hello from Dr.Younger You on this fine Thursday Summer Eve!  As you know, as a Rodan+Fields Consultant, I like to share before and after pictures of people who have had successful outcomes using the R+F products.  I usually share one before and after photo every Wednesday on my Younger You business page, and it is the one post I do share with family and friends.  I do that because they say a picture is worth a million words, right?
I call it Wednesday B4 & After photo/story as I shout out a greeting to celebrate the fact that it is Hump Day as well.  Yes, Dr. Younger You lives to celebrate the weekends with family and friends.  However, even though I am very happy for Hump Day every week, often times it is not really hump day for me as I do lots of on call on the weekends!  Heavy sigh....retirement is a mere six and a half years away, and that time will fly says Hubby Mr.Younger You!                                                                                   Okay back to before and after photos....I got a little off topic for a second.   I have been wanting to do my own BEFORE and AFTER pics for sometime, but first of all, I am not the most computer savy person, so that has delayed me from doing it.  Today I decided it was time and I have literally spent hours putting these collages together and editing them with wording as R+ F Corporate wants them properly dated and to include the products I used to achieve these results.
To ensure accuracy, I went to the cloud on my phone in order to be sure I had all the correct sequence of dates of the pictures I used.  There is no enhancement or photo touch ups because I would NOT know how to do that.  I did crop and add words to the photos. And OH MY GOODNESS, my results are amazing,  I did one collage without make up and the other with make up.  Today I am sharing the make up free photos.  I feel like REDEFINE REGIMEN has literally softened my look and made me look so much better!  I use the AMP MD Tool and roll regularly.  I use the multi-function Eye cream.  I also use Step 3 of the Reverse Regimen which is a combo of Retinol and Vitamin C.  I think this will help you all understand why I love Rodan+Fields products so much and why I became a Rodan + Fields Consultant.

Here's to Good Health and Much Happiness,
Dr. Younger You :)

Sun-kissed Legs Instead of Sun burned Legs!

7/14/2016

Hello from Dr. Younger You!   Last weekend I had the pleasure of hosting my Younger You Team "meeting" for several of the gals on my Team and a few prospective R+F Rock Stars.  The "quarterly Summer meeting" was held at my Camp.
The meeting began with floating in the pool.  Yes,  I have very hard core meetings, I know!  And yes, I used my R+F Sunscreen on my face and body to avoid the damaging sun rays.  I do try to practice what I preach!
A delicious barbecue dinner was prepared by Mr.Younger You (that's my hubby) and enjoyed by all.  Next a lively game of Cards Against Humanity ensued, and we all belly laughed ALOT!
Finally, toward the end of the meeting, I told the gals it was time to do some hands-on education of the Rodan + Fields products.  So Yours Truly(that's me), Mr. Younger You, and a Future R + F Rock Star applied the Sunless Tanner to our legs.  We first exfoliated both legs very thoroughly with R + F Micro-dermabrasion paste and the ladies only shaved with brand new razors.   A second future R+F Rock Star directed the education because she had done her homework, and had watched 3 U Tubes on how to apply R + F Sunless Foaming Tanner.
We dried our legs very well, and did one leg at a time.  She gave us each 3 pumps of the white foaming tanner per leg.  We then rubbed it all over the leg, making sure to cover all areas of the front and back of the leg.   We had to avoid putting too much foam at the ankles, knees and elbows, which was no problem, as it is very easy to apply and absorbs quickly with no streaks and no orange color.  Easy peasy.
Next, we each used R+F Daily moisturizer on the legs to ensure the tanner was nicely distributed and our legs were moisturized.
We then washed our hands and between the webs of our fingers thoroughly.  None of us had any issue with the web spaces getting tanned as we "developed".  It is recommended that you avoid clothing or fabric until it dries.   The color develops in 2 to 4 hours.  It is recommended you avoid bathing or swimming for one hour after applying it.  You then apply more as you need it.
My future R+ F Rock Star called the next day and she was very pleased. We both had glow-in-the-dark stark white legs prior to applying the tanner.  She wanted to apply a second layer, and I told her to swing by. I applied a second layer, and I LOVE how it turned out.  I plan to apply some more this evening.
In summary, if you recall my redheaded daughter got sunburned legs.  I got sun-kissed legs.  The tan looks very natural and real.  Guess which legs are mine?

Here's to Good Health & Much Happiness,

Don't ignore Skin changes!  See your Family Doc or Dermatologist

The purpose of this week's blog is simple, straight forward, and to the point.   It is especially directed at busy (and/or stubborn) people who notice that there is an obvious skin change on their body/face and continue to ignore it or delay medical evaluation. Disclaimer:  It is absolutely true that health care professionals are the worst and most stubborn patients--did I mention my Mother and Sister are retired RN's ?
As a FP Doc for 27 years, I have done many hallway consults with people pulling up their shirt or showing me their arm and they say something like this:  "Hey Doc, by the way, what do you think of this little red spot or mole, it has been getting bigger, darker or it won't heal for a year now."   My response: Heavy sigh!
Really folks, although there are many common non-cancerous age related and sun damage skin changes, it behooves you to get your skin changes evaluated by a professional if you notice a skin lesion is not healing or has irregular borders or increasing darkness.   At the very least, your Doc will reassure you and monitor you and the specific area in question or refer you to a Dermatologist or Surgeon for an evaluation and possibly a skin biopsy.  Skin biopsies can be a punch biopsy where a little cone of the skin in question is removed or sometimes an excisional biopsy is performed and this is when the whole lesion is removed and sent to be evaluated by the pathologist.
Secondly, if your Doc says it looks benign (not cancer), but then the skin lesion persists/worsens and seems like it is getting darker or becomes more irregular, or if the skin has a crater that just won't heal, GO BACK to your Doctor or get a second opinion.
A few hours of your time getting evaluated, can save you weeks of your time getting treated if indeed you have a problem that you ignore.  That's it!

Here's to Good Health & Much Happiness,
Dr. Younger You :)
