Do What Makes You Happy

The older I get, the more I realize the importance of the saying: "Do what makes you happy."   This concept applies especially to the decision a person makes in choosing and working in a career, as we spend many hours of our adult life in the workplace. And most peoples' careers typically last 35 to 40 years.
I must say that I have had the privilege of serving people as a Family Practice Doctor for the past 27 years in a few different capacities and roles.  It has been a rewarding career thus far when it comes to helping patients feel better, whether it is physically or mentally. That's truly the great and satisfying part for me.  The difficult part is all the bureaucracy involved in today's healthcare.  It affects you whether you are a small town Doctor or in a huge corporate medical group.   It is a very typical conversation that I hear nowadays among my doctor colleagues when we chat.

Although I still have many years to serve others as a Doctor, truth be told, I have always wanted to do a "fun" online business on the side--something I truly enjoy without the demands of my regular career.  I have had all sorts of entrepreneurial ideas.  My friends and family joke that I should be a professional party planner--because I love entertaining and having events. That is hard work, folks!!  I love to garden, but it is truly a hobby.
At the right time,  this Rodan + Fields business opportunity came along--and it fits the bill for me as being fun, yet I still get to help others feel better and more confident with clinically tested and proven products designed by two dermatologists.  I love being CEO of Younger You, LLC. And I love, love, love the products!  And most of all, I love the positive people in this business and the wonderful friends I have made.   We support one another and we are a Team!

Do What makes YOU happy,
Dr. Younger You :)

Oh Canada!  Dr. Younger You Visits Toronto

Hello My Canadian Friends!  This week, Dr. Younger You (Yours truly) spent the week in Toronto!  What a great city of fine people, fine culture, and fine dining!  Thank you so much!  I have truly enjoyed my time spent with YOU!
I was in Toronto for a Primary Care Medical Conference, but I did have time to enjoy walking around the Yorkville section of Toronto.  It has been equated to the ritzy Park Avenue section of NYC if you are looking for a description. Wow, what an area to visit......it has much fine and upscale shopping.  I did a lot of window shopping and gazing, and I was very mesmerized by the very highly affluent shops.
One of the highlights of the week for me was visiting the Chihuly exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum.  The glass art was incredibly gorgeous, and I am so glad that our Maker has blessed individuals like Chihuly with the talent to produce such art forms.
I also found myself on the some side streets and little plaza areas. I met the nicest young lady at LK Nails on Bloor Street who gave me the prettiest "baby pink" pedicure, with a top sparkly coat of shimmer! On a different side street, I found the Sassafraz Restaurant.  They were having a "glass of wine half off due to construction" deal, and I love a bargain, so I sat there and people watched for an hour on a very glorious sunny late afternoon. Other places we enjoyed dining in the evening include the 18th Floor of the Hyatt, Joso's(my fav), The Keg Restaurant & EVOO's.
The Yorkville area is full of all kinds of wellness, cosmetic, plastic surgery and skin/facial services, so that as a Rodan + Fields Consultant, I was feeling very overwhelmed by the competition.   But then I thought about what extraordinary results that I have gotten with Rodan + Fields clinically proven products in the privacy of my own home.  And I confirm today that I am sticking with Drs. Rodan + Fields, Stanford trained (cosmetic) dermatologists, who have products that are third party tested and clinically proven with highly excellent outcomes.
I am hoping to find a few new business partners in the Toronto areas and all over Canada to join my Team, but I feel like no matter what, I made some new friends in Canada on this trip!   "Oh Canada", I sure do love you my Neighbors, My Friends!    Peace!

Here is to Good Health and Much Happiness,
Dr. Younger You :)

My Momma's Still My Biggest Fan

This week's blog is dedicated to my Mom, who turned 79 years young today!  Meet Mother Younger You!  She is a retired RN who worked for many years in the local community hospital in the town in which I was raised.  I still have people to this day tell me what a great Nurse she was, as they share a story of what happened the day she took care of them in the ER or on the medical floor.
I laugh to think how she is a person who has always said what is on her mind.  When people greet her, and say "How are you Sophie?" She replies:  "Not too damn good."  At her nearly eighth decade in life, she has absolutely no signs or symptoms of dementia.
She is mentally very bright and writes letters everyday via snail mail to her two sisters.  She is a great pen pal to many and her letter & cards have lifted the spirits of so many people, including her Grandkids who always get mail in college. Imagine that in this fast paced world we live in!
She calls my Dad "Archie" after the TV sitcom character Archie Bunker.  Watching the two of them fight after many years of marriage can at times be live entertainment.  Somehow, despite their differences, they seem to be used to one another and love living in the "Valley" in the old and simple "Ponderosa" homestead in which I grew up.
On a daily routine, she travels up the road to visit my Sister and helps her with various tasks. Every afternoon, they have coffee and in the early evening, she watches her game show "Wheel" better known as the Wheel of Fortune and she usually solves the puzzles before the contestants do.
This evening, I took a trip to my hometown to take her out to eat for her birthday. As my Dad was telling stories, she was commenting in the background and rolling her eyes.  She really enjoyed the dinner out and her gifts, and like clockwork, I will get a very nice thank you note in the mail in a few days.

She was one of the first people that I made try my Rodan + Fields products when I started the business over a year ago!   As one of my most loyal supporters in life, the slides show her getting REDEFINED!   My Mom continues to cheer me on and support my business aspirations, as she has always loved and supported me totally and unconditionally in all aspects of my life.
Happy Birthday Mom and love you "meeses to pieces"!!

August is Psoriasis Awareness Month

What is psoriasis? — Psoriasis is a skin condition that makes your skin thick and red. It also often causes silver or white scales to form on the skin. Doctors do not know exactly what causes psoriasis, but there is an immune and genetic component.  The skin cells of those affected grow at an unusually fast rate. The disease affects 7.5 million Americans. It typically develops between the ages of 15 and 35, but can develop at any age. It is commonly associated with other health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and depression.
What are the symptoms of psoriasis? — The symptoms of psoriasis can include:
●Areas of skin that are dry or red, and that are usually covered with silvery or white scales
●Rashes on the scalp, genitals, or in skin folds (like the folds you have at the elbow and knees)
●Itching or stinging sensation
●Nail changes that make the fingernails or toenails look pitted, crumbly, or different in color
Psoriasis has an emotional effect, too. People with the condition often feel embarrassed by their skin, and some get depressed or anxious. If you have these problems, mention them to your doctor. You might feel better with counseling or another type of mental health treatment.
Is there a test for psoriasis? — Your primary care doctor or dermatologist should be able to tell if you have psoriasis by looking at your skin and by asking you questions. In rare cases, doctors take a small sample of skin to check if psoriasis is the problem.
What can I do to reduce my symptoms? — Use unscented thick moisturizing creams and ointments to keep the skin from getting too dry.
How is psoriasis treated? — There are treatments that can relieve the symptoms of psoriasis. But the condition cannot be cured.
Treatments for psoriasis come in creams and ointments, pills, or shots. There is also a form of light therapy that can help with psoriasis. All treatments for psoriasis work by slowing the growth of skin, controlling the immune response that causes psoriasis, or both. Most people need to try different treatments or combinations of treatments before they figure out what works best. The medicines that are used most often are called steroids. These medicines are applied to the skin.
What is psoriatic arthritis? — Psoriatic arthritis is a form of arthritis that can affect about 30% of people with psoriasis. It causes pain and swelling in the joints.
People with psoriatic arthritis can take medicines to reduce pain and swelling. Exercise and physical therapy can also help. Plus, some of the same medicines that help with the skin problems caused by psoriasis also help with psoriatic arthritis.
