Being a woman who loves to shop, I can honestly say I despise bathing suit shopping. I think many of my gal pals can relate. I bought the last bathing suit I own from Walmart, and I didn't try it on--but instead bought it and tried it on at home. It is a tankini which is a 2 piece bathing suit consisting of a tank top and a bikini bottom. It is considered a more modest version of a bikini. For the few times I've worn it in public, it works.
So last evening, my husband and I were riding in the car, chatting about the upcoming vacation. I told him I was looking to buy a new bathing suit, to which he replied he thought it was a fine idea. Then I mentioned that I was considering the purchase of the retro look 2 piece bikini with a high waist bottom that I was seeing on line. He next replied something to the effect that "at your age", a one piece bathing suit would probably be the best choice.............
That was it. I said, "I am definitely wearing a BIKINI now for sure--I'm Dr. Younger You!" I told him we will be over 3000 miles away, and be with friends I have known for 30 years. Who cares what I wear, as long as it fits properly? I have seen all sorts of women of various ages and physiques at resorts that look great in their bikinis.
This morning as I was getting ready for work, I remembered for my 50th birthday, my girlfriend got me a Corona bikini that has been sitting in a drawer, unworn for the past 5 years. It would be perfect for a trip to Mexico, home of Corona! I looked and sure enough I found it! I texted my husband that I am not only going to wear a bikini 3000 miles away, I am going to empower women everywhere by posting myself in that bikini as a message to just be YOURSELF!
Mandy Hale says: "Let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird, beautiful magical person that you are."
And Ralph Waldo Emerson says; "To Be Yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."
This was a brave moment for me--but, yes I dare to wear a bikini at my age!
Update 4/8/18: I made my point and have removed my bikini pic!
