I laugh to think how she is a person who has always said what is on her mind. When people greet her, and say "How are you Sophie?" She replies: "Not too damn good." At her nearly eighth decade in life, she has absolutely no signs or symptoms of dementia.
She is mentally very bright and writes letters everyday via snail mail to her two sisters. She is a great pen pal to many and her letter & cards have lifted the spirits of so many people, including her Grandkids who always get mail in college. Imagine that in this fast paced world we live in!
She calls my Dad "Archie" after the TV sitcom character Archie Bunker. Watching the two of them fight after many years of marriage can at times be live entertainment. Somehow, despite their differences, they seem to be used to one another and love living in the "Valley" in the old and simple "Ponderosa" homestead in which I grew up.
On a daily routine, she travels up the road to visit my Sister and helps her with various tasks. Every afternoon, they have coffee and in the early evening, she watches her game show "Wheel" better known as the Wheel of Fortune and she usually solves the puzzles before the contestants do.
This evening, I took a trip to my hometown to take her out to eat for her birthday. As my Dad was telling stories, she was commenting in the background and rolling her eyes. She really enjoyed the dinner out and her gifts, and like clockwork, I will get a very nice thank you note in the mail in a few days.
She was one of the first people that I made try my Rodan + Fields products when I started the business over a year ago! As one of my most loyal supporters in life, the slides show her getting REDEFINED! My Mom continues to cheer me on and support my business aspirations, as she has always loved and supported me totally and unconditionally in all aspects of my life.
Happy Birthday Mom and love you "meeses to pieces"!!
